Former MP from Uttar Pradesh, Dhananjay Singh, has been sentenced to seven years in prison in a high-profile kidnapping and extortion case. The judgment was delivered by a court in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, regarding the abduction of Abhinav Singhal, a project manager associated with the Namami Gange initiative.
Former MP Dhananjay Singh, along with his associate Santosh Vikram Singh, was convicted in the around 4-year-old case of kidnapping Namami Gange project manager Abhinav Singhal. The court in Jaunpur has set Wednesday (March 6) for the pronouncement of the quantum of punishment in this case.
The case dates back to May 10, 2020, when Abhinav Singhal, a resident of Muzaffarnagar working as a project manager for Namami Gange in Jaunpur, filed a complaint against Dhananjay Singh and Santosh Vikram Singh. Singhal alleged that Santosh Vikram Singh, along with two others, abducted him and brought him to the residence of the former MP.
At Dhananjay Singh's house, Singhal claimed that the former MP arrived with a pistol and subjected him to verbal abuse. Allegedly, Singh pressured Singhal to supply low-quality materials for the Namami Gange project. When Singhal refused, Dhananjay Singh purportedly threatened him and demanded extortion.
